🚧 Olney Pedestrian & Bicycle Project Update – May 19, 2025

Progress continues on the Olney Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project, with key changes coming ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
✅ NW Portland Ave and NW Wall St/NE Olney Ave intersection are set to reopen by Friday, May 23. This will improve traffic flow near the river and downtown Bend just in time for the holiday weekend.
🚫 However, NE Olney Ave east of NW Wall St to NE 2nd St will remain closed through fall 2025 for ongoing utility and roadway improvements.
🛠️ Crews have completed paving at the Wall/Olney intersection and the bridge leading to NW Portland Ave, along with paving the Pacific Park driveway and Deschutes River Trail crossing. Between May 19–22, final touches including striping, signs, lighting, and signal upgrades will be wrapped up.
📍 In the eastern work area, construction continues on a new sewer line, a retaining wall, and preparations for underground utility boring under the railroad. Temporary water and sewer bypasses are in place to maintain service to businesses.
🚶♀️ Access Updates:
The NE Olney Ave/NE 2nd St intersection remains open.
The NE Olney Ave/NE 1st St intersection is closed, but businesses are accessible via driveways on NE 1st and 2nd Streets.
A temporary pedestrian and bike route is in place around the Deschutes River Trail crossing area.
