Emergency crews responded to the crash site, where the pilot was found dead. Authorities had not yet released the pilot’s identity or additional details about what may have caused the aircraft to go down.
The crash remained under investigation, with aviation officials expected to examine the aircraft, flight conditions and other factors that could help determine what happened. Interagency Dispatch Helps Crews Catch Wildfires Early The Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center has helped firefighters suppress more than 100 fires this year by quickly sending the closest available resources, regardless of which agency manages the land. The coordinated system brings together the Oregon Department of Forestry, federal wildland fire agencies and municipal responders for faster initial attacks.
That cooperation was tested after an estimated 2,000 lightning strikes hit the region on July 22, generating more than 35 wildfire reports. Officials said the shared dispatch model allows crews to reach fires sooner, reduce travel time and keep resources available for new starts while larger incidents continue burning across Oregon. Read more → ⛰️ Bend Bend Housing Programs Brace for Funding Cuts and Shelter Changes Bend housing leaders warned that shrinking state and federal funding could place additional pressure on local shelter and affordable housing programs. The city is also preparing for the planned June 30, 2027 closure of the Temporary Safe Stay Area and the loss of 70 beds at the Franklin Avenue Shelter.
Programs considered especially vulnerable include safe parking and Central Oregon Villages, the small pod shelter at Bear Creek Road and 27th Street. City staff said they are working with community partners to help residents transition into other shelter or housing options, but acknowledged that enough beds and affordable units are not currently available. Wilson Avenue Improvements Completed Under Bend Transportation Bond The City of Bend has completed the Wilson Avenue corridor project, one of the major improvements funded through the $190 million transportation bond approved by voters in 2020. The work was designed to improve safety and mobility for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists along the busy east-west route.
The completed corridor represents another visible step in the city’s larger transportation plan as Bend continues working through a long list of bond-funded projects. Bend North Little League Heads to Northwest Regionals Bend North Little League is headed to the Northwest Regional Tournament after capturing the Oregon state championship. The team will now face other state champions from around the region, with a chance to continue its run toward the Little League World Series.
The regional appearance is a major milestone for the young athletes, coaches and families who have supported the team throughout the season. It also gives Central Oregon baseball fans another hometown team to rally behind as Bend North takes the field on a much larger stage. Annual memberships begin at $25 and support the museum’s work preserving and sharing the cultural, artistic and historical heritage of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and other Indigenous peoples.
Members receive free museum admission and access to the Oregon Historical Society Reciprocal Membership Program, which offers admission for a member and three guests at a different participating Oregon museum or attraction each month. Kitchen staff prepare breakfasts and dinners while packing portable lunches that can be carried onto the fire line, all while coordinating deliveries, supplies and changing meal schedules.
The operation is one of many essential support systems working beyond the flames. While firefighters focus on containment and structure protection, cooks, drivers and logistics teams make sure crews have the food and supplies needed to safely complete long, physically demanding shifts.
