🗳️ Deschutes County Map C Draws Strong Public Reactions

Debate continued this week over Proposed Map C, the county’s plan to divide Deschutes into five commissioner districts for future elections. At a recent Board of Commissioners meeting, more than 40 residents shared feedback, with some saying the map could weaken representation and others backing it as the best of the options considered. Supporters argue the districts would help local voices be heard, while critics fear the lines could disadvantage some communities. (KTVZ)
County officials are listening: a second public hearing is scheduled Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 9 a.m., giving more people a chance to weigh in. If the board approves the map, it could be sent to voters this spring; if not, commissioners would continue to be elected at‑large as they are now. (KTVZ)
🏐 Prineville Teen Returns to Volleyball After Crash

A Prineville teen is back on the volleyball court just months after suffering serious injuries in a car crash last summer. Video shared by her family shows her joining teammates for practice—walking, bumping, and setting for the first time since the accident. It's a remarkable milestone for the young athlete, who had previously struggled to get out of bed during her recovery.
While her progress is inspiring, her family says she still faces knee surgery ahead. The local community has rallied around her, raising thousands of dollars to help cover medical expenses.

🍎 Longtime Madras Food Pantry Leaders to Retire After Years of Service

Two longtime leaders at the Madras Community Food Pantry are preparing to retire as demand for local food assistance continues to grow. Executive Director Kathleen May and Operations Manager Les Weidner have both played key roles in running the pantry in recent years, helping ensure neighbors in need have access to food and support. The pantry posted the news on social media, noting that part‑time, paid positions are now open for those interested in stepping into leadership roles. (facebook.com)
May has guided the pantry through significant milestones, including securing its own building and nonprofit status, while Weidner has expanded programs like home delivery and community food collection. Both say they look forward to the pantry’s continued growth and deepening community partnerships even as they step back from daily operations. (madraspioneer.com)
🎶 Sisters Musician Justin Little Drops New Album “42”

Sisters musician and therapist Justin Little is celebrating the release of his new album 42 on January 24 — a project years in the making that marks both his birthday and a personal musical milestone. Little, who grew up in Sisters and developed his love for music through school programs and local mentorship, has compiled songs written over the last 21 years that explore themes from mental health to family and life’s journey. 42 was recorded with session players from around the world and showcases Little’s growth as a songwriter and performer. (The Nugget Newspaper)
A release event will be held at Lazy Z Winery’s mead hall on Jan. 24, where Little and a lineup of local musicians will perform selections from the album, followed by an acoustic show at Frankie’s in Sisters on Jan. 31. Vinyl copies of 42 are expected in March, with preorder available now. (The Nugget Newspaper)
